Discuss episode alternations due to 4kids' dub here. Instead of many threads about generally the same subject, here's one for all your needs in cuts, edits, etc.! Do you like some of the changes, loath them, think they're ridiculous, don't understand why they changed it that way?

Something that would bother me greatly if I had been a frequent audience for Mew Mew Power would be that they seem to add in "educational" subjects, such as a sign of women being feminists in a conversation. It's great to have educational subjects, but would children really understand what is being talked about? I wouldn't think so. They also have a problem with making all girls seem preppy in demeanor, which makes for a bad example, and provokes children to speak that way too. Also, the opening sequence is odd. I don't see why they had to change it at all, because there's no point in adding some attack clips into it as well. I would have been much more content to see them cut off a few seconds to the original and put the song on, than piece together randomized scenes from different episodes.

Another thing would be their half-assed attempts to revise the original script to fit their needs and plans. Sometimes dialect does not seem to match the action done by the character as well, due to their disregard for a match, or something of the sort. An example that stands out to me would be during the end of the original episode 21, where Zakuro gives a thumbs up to Miki, and tells him he did a good job in helping her recruit Minto back into the team. However, in the 4kids dub, she says something about pillow fights being too immature for her. I don't see how that has to do anything with a thumbs up. "Yay, we're both too mature for pillow fighting, Miki! *thumps up*"...No.

I thought she just gave him a thumbs up......that line sleepovers are so 13 was awkward. I don't know why they didn't make her simply tell him that he did a great job like she was supposed to

i agree. Also, instead of that stupid line that minto had to say about the smores, wouldn't it have made more sense just to say what she was actually saying- that her room was destroyed by zakuro? They didn't cut that part out, so it would have made a lot more sense.

The stuff that I liked in the English dub were:
The Blue Knight's voice and cool entrance music. And I also liked how they dubbed episode 9(the Minto ballet episode). It was the first time that I acctually liked the dubbed episode more than the original, even though they cut a few snippits and mirrored the car scene.

The stuff I found annoying are how they cut out almost anything that had to do with Japanese culture.(ex: respectful bowing, eating with chopsticks, erasing signs and leaving them blank) I use to tollerate the transformations, mainly because it was better than seeing Ichigo's full transformation over and over, but now they're getting kinda sloppy. The last thing is that I don't like how they made the aliens turn out. The voices are bad enough, but now they made them seem more selfish by saying that they made the same mistakes we did in polluting their own planet and wanting to take Earth. I wish they kept the concept that Earth was their home in the first place. This was one of the first shows that kind of  made me want the bad guys to win and the dub just took that away.

I guess they think that these valley girl phrases will get people interested in watching it. In my opinion I enjoy watching what they mess up. Drens voice cracked me up the first time I heard it

Tarb's voice is like somebody stabbing you through the heart everytime you hear it. I hate the alien's names...Sardon? Wtf? It reminds me of Sardine, ugh.
Anyways, I got really confused on the episode with the Cincadas. The moved scene's for no absolute reasons D<
And in episode 20 (?) When Bridget comes to Kikki's needs (stupidly) they only show one scene out of the three. And they give them american names like "incense" blek.
Also, in one episode (I have no idea what order the eppies are in) they completly changed Ryou's outfit, what was wrong with it? Was it because like every "other" cartoon, people always wear the same clothes? >.> I'm confused.

The only thing I'm really against is how they did Episode 12. I mean I like how they made it into a sneak peek pilot and I loved the new ending and it was clever how they dropped it from the series, but what I hate is they rigged the poll and made it hard to understand.

I was kind of surprised in episode 22 they kept the 'Okinawa...' but it wouldn't make sense because the characters supposedly live in America, and Okinawa is in Japan... and it is the last day of summer vacation for Zoey and pals.(it rakes a while to travel from te USA to Japan/vice versa)  oh well. ^^

In episode 15, when Ichigo is supposed to call Taruto a runt, she just talks a lot.... how would he cry/be put-down a lot because of that?

They make Minto kind-of more teeanager-ish... so she has a lot of 'teenage' lines like... "Why don't we go shopping?"

It seems like they will skip over episode 24.  Don't know why though.

Well, I know it's been dubbed and has aired in Australia. I have seen it in Jap though and am wondering how they'll edit it.

Um... I was always under the impression that they were teenagers since they are, ya know, teenage. O.o; I'm too lazy to get up and watch very often.  More teenager-ish? Not likely, maybe more stereotypical "shopaholic."

Um... Yes, I'm done...

Let me just point out a stupid line, "I can hardly lift this tea-cup to my mouth...". The made Minto mean too, as you can see from episode 6 (?).

What do mean? They always alternate time slots for 'special' weekends, like holidays, contests, etc. or just because they're trying to rearrange things a bit. It happens to basically every show, be it current or past series.
